I have repaid my car loan. Is there any procedure that has to be done with regard to RTO registration (RC) ? When you buy a car via a loan, the car is hypothecated to the lender, and this hypothecation is an endorsement in your car's registration book. Ideally, the No Objection Certificate (NOC) given by the bank on clearance of the loan has to be submitted to the Regional Transport Office informing that the loan has been paid off in total. To get the hypothecation removed, you will have to submit necessary documents (insurance proof, address proof, form for removal of the financier's endorsement, PUC) to the RTO to receive a new RC book with your name as the owner and a stamp / pur that indicates that hypothecation and endorsement have been removed. The entire process is called as hypothecation termination. Once set from the bank or financier is submitted to RTO for HP removal / termination, RTO rechecks with issuing finance for its genuineness. This take at 15 to 20 days. At times more also. Once confirmed by financer it is removed and a new RC is issued.
